Moving to Eugene
So, you’re moving to Eugene, what do you do now? Other than attending our regular UOPA meetings, you can look below for ideas.
If you’re looking for housing try the following resources:
Craigslist is a site with listings for housing, furniture, personals, and much more!
Zillow is a site with real estate listings of all kinds.
The Library website has a list of resources as well which you can peruse here.
If you’re looking for things to do in town there are many great options including:
Hiking and the Great Outdoors – Spencer’s Butte, just out of town, offers an accessible and beautiful 1-2 mile hike (depending on where you start). Just 45 minutes east or west takes you into the wilderness, if you’re into that sort of thing. There are great resources here.
Of course no list of things to do in Eugene would be worth anything if it didn’t mention our many fine fermentories. For the beer-focused we have: Ninkasi, Oakshire, Hop Valley, Falling Sky, Sam Bonds, Agrarian Ales, Cold Fire, and more. If you are more the cider type try WildCraft Cider Works. You won’t regret it, especially if you also try their chickpea fries.
Eugene is home to many fantastic little coffee shops, and other places to hang out. Try the Hideaway Bakery, Noisette, Vero, Full City Bakery, Wandering Goat, Townsends and Barrys.
If you’re looking for a place to get beers, or something a little harder, try The Barn Light (Karaoke on Thursdays at 9!), Horsehead, Falling Sky, 16 Tons, Macs, or any one of many, many other fabulous establishments in Eugene.
Check out the Jordan Schnitzer museum of art, right here on U of O campus and invariably offering a fantastic mix of permanent and temporary installations.
There are a few movie theaters in town, all serving beer! There’s the Regal Cinemas at Valley River Center if you want the newest blockbuster films, or you can head over to the Bijou Art Cinemas for something a little different. There’s also the Broadway Metro downtown which usually has a a good variety
Go hang out by the river!
